Our Literacy Specialism

The specialism at Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park is Literacy.  We chose this as our specialism because we believe that learning to read, write and communicate effectively is extremely important.

There are lots of fun and exciting Literacy events throughout the school year. We plan to post some photographs of these to this website, so watch this space!

All of our students have a reading lesson in addition to their Literacy lesson each day and there are plenty of other opportunities to practice reading out loud with their teachers. Our aim is to make sure that the children at our Academy can read fluently by the time they leave Year 2.

Reading is taught through traditional phonics and students are encouraged to read for pleasure and to take home books from our well-stocked library.

We also teach our students to become effective communicators, working with them on their speaking skills so that they can express themselves with clarity and confidence.
